Below are examples of paste paper works that I created. Using a mixture of cornstarch and water combined with acrylic paint, a thick "paste" is created that can be applied and layered on paper to develop the looks below. In my designs I mixed multiple colors of acrylic paint along with the cornstarch mixture to create a transition of shades into each other, and also to have a more blended look. For these specific examples of paste paper I used a special comb tool with multiple edges that created different patterns. The different ways of manipulating the comb can create movement or shape. The edge with the teeth created stripes through the paste, and the flat side left some paint on the paper in patches. Additionally my technique often involved adding another layer of a different color on top of the dried first layer to make it more dynamic, and in some cases to make the top layer of paint thicker to create a 3-D effect.
